Motherhood

"A mother…by her planning and industry night and day, by her willfulness of love, by her fidelity, she brings up her children. Do not read to me the campaigns of Caesar and tell me nothing about Napoleon’s wonderful exploits. For I tell you that, as God and the angels look down upon the silent history of that woman’s administration, and upon those men-building processes which went on in her heart and mind through a score of years;—nothing exterior, no outward development of kingdoms, no empire-building, can compare with what mother has done. Nothing can compare in beauty, and wonder, and admirableness, and divinity itself, to the silent work in obscure dwellings of faithful women bringing their children to honor and virtue and piety."
-Henry Ward Beecher

I just lost my mom this past March 13. She was my guide through some really dark periods. She is in the arms of Jesus now.

Great post...Thank you.

Anne,

What an unexpected surprise to hear from you! I was unaware you had a blog as well, it will be nice to have updates! With things as hectic as they've been (for us as well as you), it's frustrating to not be able to keep in contact more.

Another difference between mothers and the Caesar's and Napoleon's of this world, is that mothers are helping to build the world constructively, while emporers are trying to seize and spoil it, and bend it to their will. Let's hear it for mothers!

1Sa 1:11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

This is what I think is a great mother.. one that wants a child so much that would give me to the Lord. Who can bless more that the Lord? A Godly mom... praise the Lord Thank You Anne

What a beautiful quote (and beautiful picture to accompany it). Thanks for those inspiring thoughts. (I found you through Nicole and Laurie's blogs)
