modesty.

"My concern today is that it seems like a lot of Christian women are oblivious to the fact that they have some measure of responsibility here. I say it carefully though, because I know that some women would turn the issue back on men as if it is their own problem.
But I know that a sincere Christian woman would not have that attitude. A Christian woman would respond, "Really? I didn't know. Please, tell me what the issue is here." She wants to serve her brothers, and her brothers want to serve her. The brothers don't want to put her under any artificial constraints and she wants to serve them. So there ought to be dialogue about this. " -JOHN PIPER

We SHOULD NOT be consumed with how we look, and at the same time we do need to be careful about how we dress...be concerned with modesty...and that's all.

What you said was great! I work with a Muslim girl who once asked me why Christians women believed it was okay to show off their bodies. Of course the Muslim culture goes the other direction to totally cover up their women, but for the reason of modesty. I thought it was funny that to her it was if it is doctrinally okay for Christian women to dress that way, when in fact it is quite the opposite.

Sorry, Anne, I just deleted my comment, because I was checking my messages and reread the blog post, and it was different! I thought, Oh great! I left that comment on the wrong post! So I deleted it, went back and tried to find the right one, and realized you had apparently rewritten it. Hmm... now I am more confused than ever. So I'm going to repost my original comment, and look like an idiot...

I didn't take it that way at all. I don't think you should give yourself a hard time for wearing a bikini in the past. You wanted to please your husband on a trip celebrating your future lives together! Nothing wrong with that, as long as you felt comfortable, and Justin enjoyed it. If your heart feels different now, then NOW it would be wrong for you to wear one.
God judges us on what we are convicted of in our hearts. Once He as revealed something to us, he will hold us to that. He expects us to honor that. You shouldn't live in guilt for something you did in the past, when it's a new revelation to you! Besides that, you can't change the past, so there's no sense in dwelling on it, unless it's something that can help you learn a lesson.
Furthermore, what's wrong for one person might not necessarily be wrong for another, depending on their personal convictions.

I thought you brought up a great point, with scripture to back it up. Granted, you have to take that scripture and apply it to today's culture, and not take it literally. I think you did a great job of that, and I'm sure the majority of your readers understood what you were trying to say.
Tonight, I'm going to buy a burlap sack, and start wearing that instead of my everyday attire. I have learned a lot from you. I dress like a slut, and I'm not going to anymore. Jeans and t-shirts...what was I THINKING!! I'm such a whore.

Secondly, why am I a jerk? I thought I was agreeing with you?

I'm just giving you a hard time because I know I can...

THE t-shirt/jeans thing was HILLARIOUS.
