table.

When we got married we got this old (and free) table. The table is nicely crafted, it is a nice solid table, but the chairs are less than stellar and lets face it not my style but I have to admit having the arms on them is kinda nice. Anyway, no matter how much I cleaned and scrubbed the table it looked like it was still dirty to me. I resorted to using tablecloths a lot. Still not sure of my feelings about those. ANYWAY... I finally decided after 7 years of owning the table to paint it. I mentioned it awhile back and the consensus was to paint it black.
Here it is before:And after:
... and all it took was a weekend and about $12.

It looks great! I'm about to paint some of my furniture black but have no idea how to prep it or what to do... can you give me a breakdown or tutorial on what you did?!?! Products? Prep? Etc!!

NICE! Doesn't that feel good? It instantly looks more updated! I should post my kitchen wall post today. Check with later. The day's been pretty insane with Josh having strep throat and having to go to Verizon and buy a new phone (ugh). Thanks to Duncan & Owen!

Oh, and I meant to say now it looks very "Pottery Barn-esqe", for only $12 bucks! I love the look of black and white painted furniture!

love it, Anne! Question--did you spray paint it or just use regular paint?

I want to do a livingroom makeover and paint my coffee table/end table black. They're currently a distressed cream.

I'm pretty jealous at your amazing target finds. I never see stuff that cheap. :) Good job!!

Danielle, Looking forward to seeing your projects. You ALWAYS do an amazing job!
Michele and Allison,
I used regular paint on the table and two of the chiars and then spray painted the other two chairs.
I have to say painting it worked better, and I think looks better. You cannot tell the difference between the chairs unless you really look, I'll probably fix it when I do a touch up on it all.
Mom, almost anything was better that it was I think :)

Was the "regular paint" a gloss? And what brand? As you know my kitchen stools need a coat of black on them and I love the look of your black. It seems to shine a bit or is it matte? Let me know.
I absolutely LOVE what you've done. It is PERFECT.

Also, I can't believe the "view" out the window. We left there when it was entirely frozen out that window and now it looks like summer again!

Looks great. I am addicted to black paint. I have used it on four major pieces of furniture in my house. It holds up better than white. Your table looks like a PB table now. Awesome
